New works for Transmission gallery take their point of departure from a
Glasgow phenomenon, the "doocot" – an urban dovecote structure often
discovered in lonely areas of social neglect. The work appropriates the
rituals of the doocot’s construction and (often violent)
deconstruction; using this large-scale object with its overtones of
ambivalent anonymity and threatening presence as an unlikely metaphor
for hope. The works echo the doocot’s idiosyncratic components to
develop a form that reflects its social orientation and a metaphorical
and political signification.
